My friend tells me if i want to play faster is to start by playing some rock songs and stuff, then of course practice alot. and i believe starting off slow then speeding up will help. and you could focus on one part like the verse or chrous first then get the rest, and do the solos last |

I'd say take a basic scale shape and play it continuously and over time as your right and left hand begin to sync up more efficiently, make it faster. I'd also recommend not adding too much distortion or effects (like delay) when trying to learn how to play cleaner and faster, it may hide your mistakes better but in the long run you're only cheating yourself.

I play slow like some people and school say, so are they right? How long did it take u to play fast? I have been playing guitar for around five years and found that the best way to increase speed is to push your limits as soon as possible. In my first year of playing I started to get into metal and decided that I wanted to learn how to solo. Even though I couldn't successfully play a lot of the stuff that I attempted for a while, I kept trying and soon enough I was able to play several of trivium's solos among other bands materials. If around 75% of your practice time is used trying things outside of your comfort zone and you practice every day, speed will come with time. Here are several good practice routines that I have found online. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/correct_practice/building_speed_on_the_fret_board.html http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/guitar_techniques/shredding_part_2_-_speed__technique.html |

Well the first you should do is buy a metronome. This is so helpfull, even you think it isn´t necessary in some section or song. Practice always with it. Then separate your practice time into sections, so for example you can practice 20 min a day scales, other 20 harmony, then solos and other 20 on riffs. And most important, be constant on your practice routine. It´s essential to practice every day, or at least most of the days (maybe six days a week). Be patient and you´ll see how your hability has increased in more or less six months: by the date you´ll able to play amazing things! |
