yeah I've heard in certain parts it's relayed eg hits the drum once and it gives off more than a single note.
have you seen his attempted "blasting" on the RRunner DVD?

yeh i have, his nothing compared to suffocations drummer not sure of his name mike smith i think, but not the worst i have seen lol

regardless of the comparison, it proves he relies heavily on triggers to generate sound at speed.
Lombardo, Adler and probably even Portnoy were drumming in the days before every second drummer uses triggers and are able to play at speed without sacrificing huge amounts of sound (if you listen to Angel Of Death you'll notice a slight different between the faster and slower parts on the snare and bass)
drumming in Slipknot, Joey very rarely needs to change the dynamics of the sound coming out of his kit so he just triggers the fuck out of it, which is fine for what he has to do with Slipknot but if he ever had to play ghosts, flams or drags he'd be fucked

thats probly true but these days u pretty much have to use triggers or people will think your drum sound is "shit", i think lombardo has used triggers a fair bit though, but lombardo is undeniably the man

I'm sure most drummers have at same stage but like I said, on Angel Of Death (the song) you can hear the change in volume coming out of both the bass and snare.
And it will only sound shit if it's
a) tuned like a piece of crap (cough Lars Ulrich)
B) you can't record drums to save yourself.
c) your drummer isn't good enough to play at a level where his sound will remain constant
some triggered drums (in particular the bass drum) sound terrible anyway.
don't forget that the triggered sound has to come from somewhere to begin with

yeh lars ulrichs drums sounded like crap on st anger and i will admit that im the biggest tallica fan out lol, but i dont know much about recording drums that much that my band recorded with an electric kit for some demos

January 31, 2008 5:43:16 AM UTC Post #327

yeah that's fair enough for demos n shiz.
i'd probably do the same if i ever recorded with my mate simply cos he can get a decent guitar sound plugging straight into his computer but we haven't figured out how to get the drums sounding much good

January 31, 2008 5:48:25 AM UTC Post #328

haha, well the electric kit sounds alrite i spose and the track is decent quality, if u want a link to listen to it i will link u, acoustic kits are hard as fuk to mike i tried a few times hard shit i tell u lol, and the electric kit got better quality for wat we were after

January 31, 2008 5:50:51 AM UTC Post #329

I've always just recorded using one mic about 10metres away from the kit.
Funnily enough it ends up sounding about the same as when my mates went to some little studio place
