Oh my sweet zombie Jesus, a year?
Ive been playing for almost two years, and I still play the Squier Start I got then. Do yourself a favour, cut some technique first dude.Yeah i've been playing for nearly a year and i too have a squier strat, a decent guitar for starting out on but i really do prefer humbuckers than single coil pickups

your best bet would be to go to a guitar store and sit down and just play different guitars in your price range until you find one that suits you well

Best bet is to go to the largest local music store you can find, sit down, grab a guitar, and jam. Repeat those steps until you find a guitar or sound that you like. Don't waste your money on EMGs or a low-end LTD.
