Bending and vibrato can be fixed by trying to learn any Death song.just try to match Chuck's bend and vibrato and you'll have it in no time.

as much as it pains me to say it, if you want vibrato learn malmsteen. his vibratto is unmatched by jsut about anyone in music, and is his only saving grace.

As much as I hate that man ... That's his only redeeming quality.

QUOTE(Northern_Wrath)Pentatonic isnt a mode, at least not part of the base classical modes. A pentatonic scale is just taking, most commonly,  either the aeolian or inonian modes and removing certain degrees.
okay I dont know what that means could u post something like a link or something that can teach how to learn all that stuff? also whatever else a guitarist needs to know?

a guitaris t doesnt need theory, its an extension of the art thats only essential if you want to learn it. im not going to post any link, except for google.com . you can find alll you need on there. search it and look for it. so you actually find out if you want to learn it or not. notihngs gonna be handed to you, especailly not the knowledge of theory. so the acquisition of the materials should not be, either.

Music theory doesn't mean your songs are going to be good. Imagination and talent are the two things you need. Theory IS really helpful though because you will be able to write more efficiently and will be able to get your ideas out MUCH faster. You will also be able to be more experimental with what you do.

on pentatonics, they aren't modes BUT you can make modes of the pentatonic. They sound really eastern, like marty friedman style. IN fact the japanes kumoi is a pentatonic scale But thats just from a literal sense.
If you want to learn music theory I will say that an excellent site is ibreathemusic.com, it fucking owns. Dont forget though, theory is just something to help you, you MUST ALWAYS USE WHAT YOU THINK WILL SOUND GOOD. Be creative and use your ear, find shit which sounds interesting and good to you, dont worry about theory

Another good point was mentioned on the topic of pentatonic scales. Many exotic/oriental scales and modes are pentatonic. Pentatonic is just taking any scale, really, and removing degrees. the name itself just means that over the first 3 degrees of the scale you go up 5 steps in pitch.
Listen to the song "black cat" by cacophony (i believe thats the one) Friedman and Becker play up and down just a normal rock/blues pentatonic scale, but with some cool bending, and the most important thing "PHRASING" hey give it a whacked out Japanese vibe. Phrasing is the most important part of playing something. Note choice is important, but phrasing will set the mood. Think of playing or writing music the same as writing words. You're trying getting a message across. You could say, if you were writing a sentence about someone dieing, "The mood in the room was very solemn as the old man drew in his last breath" or you could say "everyone was pretty sad when the geezer died". Both are good, but the distinction is how you phrase it. You could even use the exact same notes, but change things like the width of your vibrato, its intensity; throw a bend in here instead of a slide, may alternate pick a whole passage instead of doing legato; maybe a pinch harmonic here would sound nice, or maybe some harmonic phrasing (refer to Mattias Ia Eklundh, he is the master of this).
Anyways, was just reading over this thread and wanted to throw that out there. Its a pretty useless tangent of useless information! But maybe it'll get my point across, whatever it was!
