Have you ever thought that trivium changed their style of music in the four records?

I love The Crusade and it would be my second favourite after Shogun.
I just think the whole album was brilliant and each song was memorable on it's own after a couple of listens. The one thing that brought that album down for me was 'This World Can't Tear Us Apart'. I know it was meant to be a kind 'Dying in Your Arms' type song but i just don't think it worked lol.
As good as Ascendancy was, i think a couple of the songs feel kind of same-y. I sometimes struggle to listen to Ascendancy or ETI all the way through because of this but the other two i could listen to for hours on end.

=Nicola9 said:I , honestly think that "The Crusade" wasnt a good album. First of all, because it wasnt a reflection of the anterior album: "Ascendancy".I understand that we must always improve our skills every day , but changing the vocals very fast.. is not a good option to maintain your bands identity and your fans preference.Second of all, not only the vocals has changed, but also the "way they play their music"(I dont know how to explain it musically, due to my lack of knowledge of guitars blah blah blah blah...)I REALLY believe that the "screaming part" is relevant in a metal band ,since Trivium began its career that way. Now this is my opinion...Im not forcing anyone to believe me , but that is how I thought about the third album.

Very well said.

I feel that there was an identity established on 'Ascendancy' that I was looking forward to Trivium building on, not breaking away from. It was a perfect blend of brutality and tenderness, two seeming opposites that you rarely, if ever, hear in any genre of music. It was pulled off perfectly; Trivium would go as hard as possible in each song on that album, then pull back at the precise moment. It was this level of restraint that blew my mind. I don't see that on their subsequent albums. Their recent albums are still good, don't get me wrong, but they really don't hold a candle to 'Ascendancy' in my opinion.
