This was my second time seeing Trivium perform. I don't think I've had a better night of my life, ever. They played in Towson, MD on Halloween. It was fucking fantastic! What else could be better then spending a kickass holiday with your favorite band? I go to college in Baltimore, MD so it was about a 20 minute drive. By the time the doors opened (7pm) it was raining, fortunately that subsided sometime during the show. It was ridiculously kickass. I was definitely on a high from life after seeing them play. It lasted a few days. I was seething with excitement!! The best parts were that I was RIGHT up front, it couldn't have been better unless the barrier was nonexistent. Additionally, they played at The Recher Theatre in Towson which is a smaller venue (well, it's not small but it's not an arena - I really HATE arena shows... they're a lot more depersonalized, in my opinion) which was badass in it of itself. I was singing my heart out to every single song. I swear I had the time of my life up there in the front! They had a fill-in drummer, he was good, I can't recall his name. Before coming out they played the Ghostbusters theme song (apparently this was Paolo's idea). It was Halloween, afterall. I was about to bet my life on the fact that they were about to run out on stage in Ghostbusters attire, alas I was wrong! However, Matt Heafy made jokes about his Edward Cullen costume not arriving in time ;D That was cute. All throughout the show I was screaming and singing my ass off, I swear. Matt kept looking into the crowd and occasionally he made eye contact with me and he'd smile from the fact that I was so INTO it and fervently singing along (: It was so great! I really can't put it into words. Just thinking about it now is making my heart race. It was an incredible night! After their set ended they threw out guitar picks and the set list into the crowd. Everyone was grasping to get one or the other and lucky me, up in the front and being on of the clearly super-psyched fans who sang along the whole time, was fortunate enough to get Matt's guitar pick shoved directly into my hand while everyone else got to scramble for the handful that he threw out into the crowd. Additionally, I purchased a new shirt. I bought the one I'm wearing in the picture - the white "TAKE THEIR FUCKING HEADS" shirt. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. After the show, my friend who came along with me was nice enough to creep up behind the venue with me and a few others and wait outside hoping for a chance to meet everyone. We waited and waited and it paid off. I got to meet everyone and I got pictures with Paolo, Corey and Matt. Matt signed my shirt. They're really nice guys - all willing to talk to everyone and sign stuff and take pictures. It was so comforting to realize that my favorite band ISN'T compiled of a bunch of arrogant asshats. They're all pretty chill, too. Right when Matt came out I rushed over to meet him. He is really, really, really nice. Again, it's something that I can't put into words. He's probably one of the nicest people I've met. One of the first things he said to me was, "Yeah, I saw you out there. You were singing your ASS off!" I could tell he was genuinely happy about it. I could NOT stop smiling if I tried. Later on, this one kid was on the younger side, he was maybe 14? ...and he was talking to them about how he was upset that he only knew the words to their older stuff and was only able to sing along to their older songs that they played. Matt made a comment directed to me, "Yeah, well SHE was singing her ass off out there!" Ahhhh, he mentioned it again. All I could do was stand there all star-struck like an idiot, basically. Haha X_X Then later, all of the members dispersed into the bar or the tour bus... Corey and their fill-in drummer went into the bar and Paolo had disappeared earlier. Matt was still standing outside, everyone had left except for me and my friend. I didn't want to be annoying or anything, but I was really too happy with the situation to leave right then so I stayed. Matt asked what we were going to do now and I said that we had no idea, probably find somewhere to eat (although it was about 1:30am by then, so it was potentially tricky). He invited us to check out the bar with him, I told him I was under 21 and he suggested that maybe they weren't carding people. Sadly, I had to mention that I still had the X's from the show on my hands which would have been a dead giveaway. Nevertheless, we walked over to the bar and looked in. There were a bunch of crazy drunken people, all of which were of course dressed up for Halloween. Earlier Paolo had said how lame the bar looked and then when we looked inside we realized what he had meant. Matt said that Paolo was his partying buddy, but that he didn't usually party much anyway. He called Paolo to see where he was, it turns out he had returned to the bus so that was where Matt headed off to. I gave him one last hug (this was probably like the 5th hug I had given him... I'm so lame.) and then we parted ways. It was a magical evening. Sorry for explaining everything in such detail, I just really needed to get this out of my system. This was undoubtedly the best Halloween ever. The show was excellent. Everything about it kicked total ass.
