Learning Guitar

I've been playing for almost a year now, I've been learning this whole time by playing Trivium riffs, only song i can play in full is DIYS, and LLTTF, am I doing it wrong if this is all I can play?

The only time you're learning wrong is if it hurts. Some people learn quicker or slower than others, but if you can't play any other Trivium songs then try learning songs by other bands. Even (subjectively) crappy bands like Green Day have songs that are cool to learn when you're not that great.

it's not really that it hurts, I just get angry easily when learning songs, special with weird rythms, I can play solo's pretty easily but for example, when I try to play the first riff in rain, i'm fucked.. if i could slow it down it would be easy, but i don't have a metronome

I've tried that with blink-182, it takes like ten minutes to learn those >_>

I said learn some easier songs, not bore yourself to death I'm sure you can think of a band that's not quite as difficult as Trivium!

I would say Metallica has some of the easier yet cool riffs to learn first.

get guitar pro or power tab. both are easily obtainable (legally or otherwise) and both have metronomes.
problem solved.

This.
And dont just stick to Trivium. Learn some Sepultura (Inner Self and Desperate Cry especially) or Death - Crystal Mountain is a great song to really enjoy, and the lead parts are quite easy, minus part of the solo, but just remember, it isnt all about the solo. You really really need solid riffing first.
I think solos come with time, theres no need to go out and "learn how to solo". You just need to know scales n harmonies so soloIm no shredder, and i dont ever want to use shredding because its just fucking pointless. Im the type like that uses effective lead parts............if any at all
Just learn songs with the meatiest mightiest riffs ever n just lay off the Trivium for a bit i guess.

Lol thanks for the song recommendations, I checked out the Sepultura songs, it's the first time I've heard them, but it's really good too, started learning inner self after i heard it.
