QUOTE("Lorna")depends wht ur wanting to improve to what exercises u should be doing...the ones i use are
diaphragm lifts which r basically just there to warm up ur diaphragm b4 u sing...then i do something called nasal fricatives which r to plce the voice in your head....then i do a couple of various scales which r to extend range...then lung expansions which r to extend ur notes and help with breath control so which ones do u think u need to use and ill try my best to explain them to u xxxxxx
hey would you mind explaining the diaphragm and also the nasal fricatives please
cheers xx

You all seem to be talking about improving your screaming, but why? Do you really need to scream to be metal nowadays? Look where Maiden, Metallica, Priest, Sabbath etc got to without screaming.
I'n not saying that screaming is bad, because it's not. However, when bands use only screaming it sounds terrible (to me anyway), so it ought to be combined with ordinary singing.
(Just for the record I don't sing. I'd like to keep everyone's ear drums intact and make sure everybody's windows stay in one piece )

dance of death....take a listen to my band...we dont scream
www.myspace.com/burdenmusic

diaphragms support the sound so u need to keep it strong in order for it to work to its full ability
having strong stomach muscles help so doin sit ups and crunches is a must for me
anyway
a diaphragm lift is basically....say sssh quite forcefully as if youre angrily telling someone to be quiet, each time you say sssh pull in your diaphragm for a split second and then release
do this 5 times..in 3 sets....so 3 sets of 5 lifts and no more cuz u can hurt urself
nasal fricatives r easy...what you do is imagine your voice is inbetween ur eyes (daft int it lol ) and hum on a N sound instead of an M.....hold the note for as long as you can

hope this explains it , its hard to explain unless i can show u lol
xxxxxxxxxxxx

The only thing I hate more then screaming constantly is that whole "scream then sing cleanly" because most of those singers are carbon copies of each other. In terms of whats metal, there will never be a more brutal and better vocalist in metal then Phil Anselmo on Vulgar/Far Beyond/Sounthern Trendkill, EVER. Except maybe, "the Swede" from Soilwork. Other then that though, everyone lacks something.

I dunno for me, they jsut ahd a power about them. I could listen to pantera 24/7 and never get bored. Those 3 albums define metal for me. It's unstoppable, adn the most pure and heartfelt metal there ever was.

Indeed! I love Phil's vocals on This Love mostly, the way he can sing with such pain and emotion and those screams... no one does screaming better! 8)
