What sort of screaming does Matt do?
May 07, 2010 10:03:16 PM UTC Post #1

Title says it all... Does he use Vocal fry? False chord? Something else?

A video or something showing how to scream like him would be very much appreciated, if there's anything out there that might be able to help me.

Also, sorry if this has been done before. I'm new, and even though I tried the searchbar, I found nothing.

Thanks for any responses!

I don't know the technical term for it. If you said "scream like Matt" I could do it lol. Screaming is kind of something hard to describe as it's internet and you can't "show" someone how to scream really hah. I hate to butcher this to death but The Zen of Screaming if you can get a hold of it helped me a lot figuring out how to scream properly. That and trying to replicate what the vocalist is doing with trial and error. If I can think of a better way to help you I'll post here :)

ThanksI have a somewhat basic scream under my belt (not literally), but I'm not 100% sure I'm doing it right. It doesn't hurt, but I can't do it for more than 3-4 songs. Is this how it's supposed to be? Or should I try to find another method?

its not supposed to really be like that. how long have you been trying to do it though?

Take your teeth out of me
I have just begun to breathe on my own
I don't know what this is
These eyes can hardly see what is eating me

About a month or two, now. However, within the last 2 days I've actually been able to get a proper screaming sound out of it. It's nothing impressive, and doesn't sound brilliant, but it's actually sounding sort of right now, whereas before it was sounding awful.
Do you know of any good videos teaching how to do it properly? I could see if I'm doing it the same way, and if not, change my technique.

LMAO "it's internet". I meant "internal" wow. Fingers man haha. Don't work when I want them to.

Yeah, it definitely shouldn't be like that after two songs or so. For me it always seems like in the studio I'd strain my voice more than in a live situation. Live it always comes out more naturally for me. Trying YouTube'ing The Zen of Screaming. There are "some" videos on there. Nothing probably super in depth but maybe there's just enough to give you some answers.
