Which ISP?

You could get unlimited downloading acces, but that'd mean you'd have to pay gazillions more on what the ISP is already ripping off you. I think we have about 50 GB on the computer. So that's enough I suppose. Though if you want internet for a laptop (considering you don't have internet at home and want to surf in the entire country) it usually only varies from 500mb to 2 GB, so yeah, that's basically nothing. (And it's ridiculously expensive as well. Oh well. ) As for ISPs, I'm with Telenet, A Belgian - yes Belgian, as in yes countries the size of a shitstain have their own providers (okay Telenet doesn't really count because it's a partner of Tele 2 which is available in other countries, but Belgacom for example) And honestly, there's no difference in the level of shitness between our providers.
I have a 100 Mbit/s connection and pay like 30 euro a month for it, I can download as much as I want really and it rarely slows down.

It's way more expensive over here, around 50€ for your 50 GB limit. Though I can't really complain about the limit itself, it's not like I'm downloading games/movies/albums non stop. I usually just use internet for Forums, facebook, msn and occasionally downloading an album to see what it's like and to decide whether or not it's worth buying. So I don't complain.

One thing I'd say about migrating is check it out first, if you go to Sky they might put you on the LLU network which may not get you a higher speed than what you're getting at Virgin.. just a heads up.

i was in a cable area but moved out of it, but because i was on a contract i had to put up with ADSL. I'll be put on LLU here and they're expecting between 6 and 10 meg on their 10 meg service. however, should the speed be too slow, then I wont have to put up with following BT Wholesale's ludicrous fault process, which is a good thing.

Its nearly impossible to get the full whack out of your supposed broadband speed in the UK, and the companies know this. The system is so antiquated it can only produce a fraction of what we are all paying for, and unless you live on top of a very good substation, you've no chance of getting anywhere near quick enough. I wish we were in Hong Kong.

If you're on ADSL
I could have 50meg going down this line if I wanted.

How much would it cost?

August 23, 2009 2:14:52 PM UTC Post #18

£35 a month, I think..

Thing is, without a decent PC to really take advantage of such a speed increase and a very good reason (gaming or a lot of streaming that needs to be high speed), it would be pointless IMO.
Personally, Im impatient but not THAT impatient

Yeah man, you're right. Unless you're really serious about online gaming, or you're part of a big family who download A LOT. Then it's not worth it.
Basically, if you say you NEED 50meg and you're the only user, and you don't play online games, then you're probably doing something illegal.
