The single note lead part featured here is reletavly simple to play,
so focus your attention on timing instead. Try to fret the notes as
cleanly as possible and add vibrato when necessary. You should remember
to keep all the idle strings quiet, using left and right hand muting.

This section is sparse so, once again, the bonus is on timing. Keep your foot tapping
the down beat (beats 1, 2, 3 and 4) and keep count in your head. You may also benefit
from keeping your picking hand moving in time with the beat, even during pauses. This
will give you much more of a sense of when to play. Also, make sure the rests are dead
silent. Any accidental string noise can ruin the moment.

Trivium use the octave shape alot, as it's the good way to add size to
a guitar melody. Because the feel of the section is quite loose, the
strumming hand should move in an alternate down-up fashion. With careful
muting using the underside of the fingers on the fretting hand, idle
string noise should be eliminated. This will enable you to strum all
six strings with only the third and fifth strings sounding.

Time for some more one-fingered
powerchord playing! That's the
beauty of Drop D tuning. The
metallica style ending is first
played in unison, then the second
time you move up to play a diatonic

This solo is best digested in
four bar-chunks. Learn each
section thoroughly before you
put it all together. The
harmonised Randy Rhoads style
section is the most technically
difficult part. Each bar is the
same pattern except with different
notes. Practice it slowly until
your hands become synchronised
and are able to speed up.

Ask big-lunged R&B warblers Mariah
or whitney, and they will tell you
there's only one way to end a sng:
by transposing the chorus. Even
though it may not seem abvious at
first as to what had happened, the
technique is an effective way of
giving the song a "lift", and for a
dramatic ending. In this part, the
whole chorus is moved up a whole step
(two frets) from the previous three
times it was played.
